Hey! Volvo S80!
Well, i just wondering how good was this thing? Especially the top of the line 2.9l I6 Twin-Turbo. Any issue to look for?
I wonder because well, this car depreciate so badly (MSRP was somewhere arround 60k, now you can grab one for 5-7k) here in Indonesia, so bad that's i wonder is it good idea to buy one of these.

soft transmissions, and electronics. Fun car when new for sure, but those trannies are good for 100K maybe

Well, so far in my online car shopping i haven't found one pass 100k yet (km or miles), so that's good.

Well, that's sounds bad.
But in here, the highest i can find was 2002 with 63k miles on it. Some example even didn't make it past 30k, and that's intriguing..

my inlaw's have an 09 with the 3.2 and they love it. Depreciation wasn't nice to it over here too; they stole it for $19k back in 2011 with only 30,000 miles on it. It's got a smooth, quiet ride, decent power, comfortable leather seats, and looks good too! Did you see the video on the FP of the V8 S80 tat had straight pipes on it?!

ready.......*Deep breath*
-Trans (GM bad, rebuild kits"aftermarket" bad, Volvo only sell remans...bad)
-Flame trap box
every 50K or so, semi big job but a part of regular maintenance
-Front spring seats "strut mounts
-Front control arm bushings and ball joints
-Thermostat (only sold as an entire housing with temp sensor at dealer)
-Turbo hoses (swell from excess oil from turbos)
-Front mount (wears quick)
-Rear mount (wears quick)
-Right mount (wears quick)
-Upper torque mount (wears quick)
-VVT pulleys and solenoids (need special tool, rear cam holder)
-leak detection pumps for evap
-brake pressure switch
-ABS unit + software
-CEM (central electronics module) + software
-DIM (driver's information module) + software
-Turn signal switch with trip computer
-SRS clockspring
......all are fairly common :]
Various trim ware and other things depend on the previous owner as is on any used car.
Important to keep an eye on the flame trap box. Crankcase have to always maintain negative bar pressure so engine seals will not blow up.

Well, the second gen S80 is expensive. Base model start from 75k USD.
And nobody bought one..
And yes, i saw it. It's mental.

there are plenty of them in the US with a buuunch of miles on the ticker. But mostly because older people are either loyal to the brand, don't want a fidgety German car/driving dynamics, and they have the money to do all these things. I'd get only one because I am an ex Volvo master tech and employee discount on parts. The car to get is a 07 and newer S80, solid machines!

Well, in here S80 is driven mostly by doctors, or government official that bored driving his government issued camry, so there's plenty low-mileage one, but high mileage of this thing is rare. And mostly they're 2.9T
For the second gen..
That thing is helluva expensive (MSRP is 75k USD for the base model 2.4, all the way to 130k for the V8), so Nobody bought one.

Alfa?
Yes, but we only got the Giuletta and (soon) 4C. And i really want that sweeeeet hatchback.
Anyway, how about the S60R for the same era with this S80? Better or worse?

lol whoops, I meant the HotWheels Alfa that I sent you :]
The S60R's for the most part had the similar maintenance habits of all the Volvo's of the early 2000's without the transmissions issues, that goes for manual and auto. Brake pads are a little more pricy as well as the Four-C shocks (that have to be switched in pairs). But besides regular maintenance, the S60/V70 R's were very good machines and are real fun to drive. Active chassis and AWD system is really good.

Oh, i was thinking the cars.
Well, i haven't. I'll wait tough :D
Hmmm
I found an S60R in here for 7.6k, black with baseball glove interior and spaceball transmission. It's a bit far from my house (1 hour drive), but i really intrigued with that thing.

yeah. Afterall that's what i paid for my Crown. It'll be better if i can trade the crown to the S60R :D
For the star, i almost buy the E55 i post here earlier. But the car has too much aftermarket stuff that it's scares me. It got full stage 3 renntech tune, renntech radar detector, renntech full brake package, renntech LSD, renntech exhaust, and fully upgraded renntech transsmission.
It's one hell of a beast. But, i'm sure when shit goes wrong, it'll be much more expensive to replace than my old 2 previous merc.

that's true, Mods = punished car. The Crown is sooo BOSS! I say, if you have the time, at least go check it out and give it a spin around the block. And of course, give it plenty of thought. i'm sure you'll figure it out.

Well, i'll check the volvo on saturday.
To be honest, i want to keep my crown, but i kinda wish it has more power. I guess that's the effect of daily driving mercs with big V8 and V12 :D
I'm still looking on prospect to twin-Turbo it, since it's a 2JZ, so i think mods should be plenty.

love those cars. I'm an ex Lexus master tech as well. Big RWD Toyotas was just too awesome! Mercs as well

Yeah. I wonder why they keep it JDM only.
Seriously, if toyota sent these thing as an S-Class competitior, they will sell quite well.
I mean, you got an S-Class level of gadget, S-Class level of size, S-Class level of comfort, but for E-Class money with extra Toyota reliability. It's brilliant.

100% true!
though..
I did spend a good amount of the day last week in the latest S Class. It is quite incredible. Yet, all i kept thinking was, "i cant wait til the next Lexus LS comes out!"

Well, the LS and Crown is share the same platform, but somehow Crown is much more comfortable than the LS. But LS handles better than the crown.
Crown is sooo soft that driving like a maniac on mountain road is not fun, it's makes you sick.
I expect LS will have similar tech like S-Class, altough somehow lexus sounds cheap for me. I prefer S-Class or the Crown "Crown" badge than a Lexus.
